Hi, everyone! It’s been about four months since our ministry embraced this new trend called “quarantine”, and I thought I’d give you the rundown of how it’s affected me and Living Hope.

Growth!

At the end of March, the American missionaries were given the opportunity to take a furlough in these unknown times and embrace COVID stateside. Though I was tempted to take the break and enjoy a season with my family, I knew that God had blessed me with good health and that as a testament of His love for my boys, I needed to stay in Mexico.

It’s been a blessing for both my boys and me to grow in this season of uncertainty together. With the school cutting back hours we’ve been able to grow as a dorm family together, seeking God for peace, and asking Him how we should embrace this season. The growth has been existential.

What have I been up to?

With the cut-backs in staff, my job responsibilities have also taken a shift. With the inability of having groups come and visit us this summer, I have been given the opportunity to set up video conferencing with our children and their sponsor families. This has really added a unique dynamic to our sponsorship program as our children are now able to “meet” sponsors via video that they otherwise wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet. I have seen such a joy blossom in both our children and our sponsors as these relationships have been truly cherished in these crazy times.

Another change is that our orphanage has been in a complete lockdown since March. This means I have not left campus, nor have our children, since then. Our church, Nations Church, has been launching video services and we as a family have been able to partake in these together on our orphanage campus.

Child Spotlight:

Meet some of the kids I work with!

Meet Gabriela

Gabi is spunky, cute, outgoing, and caring. She’s a part of the youngest girls’ dorm and I’ve been able to spend a lot of time with her through our sponsorship video calls. She wants to be a wrestler when she grows up (hopefully that gives you insight as to how spunky she actually is!) and loves caring for her little sister.

Meet Emanuel

Ema is initially shy and reserved, but once you gain his trust he slowly but surely lets you in. He enjoys his friendships and really cares about his family. He is one of the 11 boys that I am in charge of and I have the pleasure to pour into his life daily.

Meet Irvin

Another one of my boys. He’s funny and quirky. He loves attention and making others smile. He is a hard worker and puts a lot of energy into everything he does. He loves cooking and helping out in our on-campus kitchen.

These are just three of the almost 100 kids that have changed my life in these past 2 years, and I am so thankful that I can make even the slightest of impact in their lives!

Prayer Requests:

I appreciate all of you who have reached out and prayed for me during this time! It is so needed and appreciated. I would appreciate your prayers in the following:

  • My visa renewal process. That it would go smoothly and that I will have the funds. This will cost me $500 USD.

  • That God would keep the staff and children safe at LHI as the virus has been spreading in the city of Puebla.

  • That I would use this season to sow hope in the lives of my boys.

  • That God would move in the hearts of my family and friends to financially partner with me in this season.
